Lucky was rescued in Central Taiwan from an owner who neglects her and lets her roam outdoors. When the rescuer drove by her home in May 2021, she almost hit Lucky because the was running towards the meridian in a panic. The rescuer parked her car and got Lucky; she was not only emaciated, but had extreme matted hair everywhere. She also had some fleas on her. The owner claimed that they groomed Lucky weekly and feeds her well. Looking towards where the owner called Lucky’s home, it was a molded cardboard box with no coverage. Her food bowl was dirty and she had no access to water. The owners decided to surrender Lucky to avoid an animal cruelty investigation.

In the rescuer’s home where Lucky stayed with the 26 other dogs and 3 cats, Lucky was shy but very cuddly. She is not walked regularly in the foster’s home in Taiwan and was accustomed to using pee pads.

After arriving in Vancouver, she is walked regularly and encouraged to potty outdoors. She tends to potty indoors or hold her poop in the first week until she relaxes. Currently, she needs to know there is someone present at the moment as she settles in but very calm easy demeanour. Lucky will be best fit in a home where she can enjoy attention from her family all the time and can have the patience to get through her decompression period. Please submit an adoption application to meet Lucky! [/post_text_body]

Ruby is a confident puppy that is still exploring the world. She roamed the streets for six months before the locals captured and spayed her. She is marked with a clip on her right ear. She enjoys human companions so much that she often seeks your attention. She also is pretty well socialized and is polite and playful with other dogs. She will best fit with a family looking to add a paw-friend for their dog. Her personality is calm, collected, and goofy. She loves to stroll in the park, roll in mud and anything that stinks. She compensates for her goofiness by returning lots of kisses and googly eyes. She lived in a small rural town with her loving foster Mom before she came to Vancouver, and now she is learning to live with the city noise. Her new foster parents are making significant progress by bombarding her with delicious chicken treats at walks, and it’s working!

Since Ruby is very tall, she will be tempted by the food or toys left on your counters. She will need a careful and organized owner who can clear all temptations, otherwise, she can chew your belongings and steal leftover food before you know it.

Mooncake is the sweetest pup ever. You wouldn’t know that she is a rescue when you meet her because she is so loving and happy. She has the kindest eyes that when you look at her, she stares right into your soul and melts your heart. She has no problem going up to strangers and dogs alike – she greets all with the cutest tail wag. Mooncake is very playful and loves her toys so much that she will often keep herself preoccupied. She likes her space (preferably on the edge of a bed or couch) but loves to cuddle with her human just as much.

She is working on her potty training at the moment. She has gotten really good at holding it; however, she still does not know how to let her human know when she needs to go. She will need a good schedule to keep her on track. She is pretty good on leash although she does get distracted easily by just about anything and will abruptly stop.

Mooncake is a very social dog so she would love a home with someone home often or with a doggy companion. This girl will always greet you with the happiest tail wag and grunt! She will make a great addition to any family.
Mooncake does have skin allergies related to diet, specifically chicken. Even on the salmon diet, there is still some itching/licking of the paws but not nearly as much as before. Her ears also need attention as she does have a tendency to get ear infections – will need to clean often.

The rescuer went to the Sun Moon Lake in Central Taiwan on April 5th and that is when she saw Chili in the scooter parking lot. He was malnourished, extremely underweight with ribs showing. The rescuer noticed that Chili was missing a front paw. The lot attendant told the rescuer that they have already called the shelter to pick up the dog. Because Chili is so tamed and loving, the rescuer thinks he was dumped onto the street by someone. Chili is extremely friendly too people, dogs, children, even cats. He is also very friendly and cuddly! In the Vancouver foster, he is the sweetest boy that everyone loves! Chili deserves a beautiful home who can give him as much as attention as possible.

Chip was rescued together with his siblings in a garbage disposal field in Taiwan and were left to die. After the rescuer took them in, Chip and his siblings flourished in a multi-dog environment. His siblings and himself were subsequently adopted at around 8 months of age in the Lower Mainland. After his adopter grew the family, Chip could not adapt to the family life with a toddler and was returned to CooGo in November.

Chip takes time to get secure with new people/owners/places. He forms a strong bond if he is given enough space and time in the beginning. He needs an experienced handler, preferably one with village dog or Formosan handling experience. A gentle guidance without forcing is helpful. Understanding his needs and following his pace is important to prevent unpleasant behaviours.

Although Chip is able to adapt to a sedentary lifestyle, Formosans are smart breeds that need lots of mental and physical stimulation. He will do best in a home that enjoys outdoor exercises. Please submit a no obligation adoption application to schedule a meet and greet!

  • Kiwi

    Kiwi

[post_text_body]Kiwi is just like the taste of the fruit kiwi, beautiful, sweet, and unique. Her shiny smooth coat is as attractive as it looks! She gets compliments wherever she goes and she just enjoys that shower of attention! Kiwi is sociable, affectionate, and approachable. Kiwi was part of the TNR program and was for some reason returned to an unfamiliar area. Because of her temperament, the foster mother decided to take her in and find her a forever home. She is still in training on her eating etiquette with a slow feeder, and have just started her crate train. Being a smart 7 month old Formosan Mountain Dog mix, we are sure she can master the skills in no time! Weighing at around 11.5kg at the moment, she will likely grow up to medium size, of slim and athletic build and up to 20kg. As a Formosan Mountain Dog cross, Kiwi will shed minimally, but needs a bath as frequent as once a week as they have an oily coat. Because of the athletic nature of the breed, Kiwi will fit best in a family with a somewhat active lifestyle.[/post_text_body]

  • Mike

    Mike

[post_text_body]Mike’s an active, athletic, and gentle 20kg Formosan Mountain Dog looking for his forever companion! He is very sociable with dogs, kids, people, and gentle with smaller dogs. At the age of 10 months old, he’s ready to take on any challenges ahead of him! Mike was very skinny when he was found under a car. Because he was cold, very scared and hungry, he whined loudly that the rescuer quickly found him. He was so handsome, that he got adopted very quickly, but the story didn’t end there. He was found on the street again. When the original owner was contacted, they claimed that Mike just ran away, and that they didn’t want him anymore. Being a Formosan Mountain Dog, Mike has sheds minimally and will grow up to a medium size dog slightly smaller than a lab. He is now 20kg and will likely grow up to 25kg. Because he is athletic, he will fit best in a family that can meet up with his activity demands.[/post_text_body]
