    Mac

Fee: $600 Location: Vancouver Earliest Date to Arrive: Feb 17 2021

Approx Birthday: Jan 23 2015 Sex: Male Breed: Shiba Inu Weight: 9.1 kg Length (head to toe): 40 cm Height (chest to base of tail): 36 cm Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Special Need: N/A Previous injury: N/A

Harness Trained: No, pulls while walking with harness Crate Trained: Yes Potty: Indoor and Outdoor Basic Commands: No Pee Pads: N/A Ever Been Alone in Home: Only been alone without people but with dogs

Food brand: Kibbles Number of Feeding per Day: 1 Food Guarding: Will guard food over other dogs but won’t be towards human

Kid Friendly*: 3/5 Dog Friendly*: 2/5 Cat Friendly*: 1/5 Barking: 2/5 Chewing: 1/5 Separation Anxiety: 1/5 Fear for Adult Men: 1/5 Active Level: 3/5 Independence Level: 3/5

Kid Friendly*: Fairly Shy – met groups of active kids in the park who ran over and wanted to pet him, Mac was a bit scary and tried to escape

Dog Friendly*: In the open space Mac doesn’t interact with other dogs; in the restricted area such as crate and single room, Mac doesn’t like to be approached, sometimes he would even growl to warn other dogs not to get close

Cat Friendly*: Will chase cats in a manner as if he is hunting

Mac used to be a sire dog for breeding and is generally very friendly to people. He enjoys gentle rubs on the ears and back and could be very affectionate. Though at dog salons he bites the chain to release his nervousness but never bites human. At vet’s, Mac hates to be held tight in place, but he will take blood test calmly without external force.

Being kept indoor for most of his life, Mac gets very excited when he goes out for walks. When he is having too much fun, he might not react to people’s calling and commands. Therefore, it is recommended not to let him off leash outside except for dog parks.

Overall, Mac is very territorial. He would try to pee and mark wherever he can to claim territories outside. He also barks when hearing vehicles driving by the house, and growls at other dogs when they get close to him. Mac is also a bit “clean freak” when it comes to potty. Although hasn’t been trained to pee or poop at certain spots in house, Mac never does so at where he considers home and always holds it until out of the house. He has very easy-going diet habits but might guard foods towards other dogs.

At the moment, Mac is looking for a patient and lovely new home to settle in Canada.

In October 2020, Robin was found in front of a temple along with Mia. The temple host told the rescuers that they were both homeless. Mia had given birth several times already and the puppies all disappeared shortly after birth. . Robin had seemed to be ill for a long time but no one ever tried to help. The rescuer took both dogs for neutering and spaying and veterinary care. During X-ray testing, we found that Robin had an old pelvis injury . The fracture long ago healed on its own and luckily does not appear to influence Robin’s mobility. Robin will just need to take some supplements for joint health. The initial plan was to neuter Robin and release him back to where he was found. But during his care the rescuer discovered Robin had a wonderful temperament. He was unexpectedly obedient and picked up some commands right away. Unlike other senior dogs, he was very active and friendly to people, even with strangers and children. It became obvious that Robin had been well trained by previous owners, such as knowing how to sit or lie down when people give him treats. Robin’s disability immediately after what we assume was a car accident is very likely the reason he was abandoned. Getting to know Robin’s personality has been such a wonderful surprise for our rescuers. We hope a new family can share this pleasure, appreciate what a sweetheart Robin is, and provide a loving place he can call home.

Fear for Adult Men*: Doesn’t reach out to strangers, shy in general, willing to take food from people; doesn’t bark and usually stay quiet

    [post_text_body]

Freda is abandoned at a local company. She always ran out to welcome people during rush hours and some ladies were feeding her throughout the week. They were concerned that she might starve over the holiday, and might be hit by cars, poisoned or trapped. Because of this fear, they decided to find an adopter who can take care of her. In Taiwan, it is difficult to rehome a Formosan Mountain Dog.

Freda is very cautious when facing strangers or being placed in a new environment. She would shake or hold her tail between her legs for the first few days. Having other dogs around could help her relax. Freda can be cuddly as well. She shares the bed with her current foster since day one, and she always knows how to pick the spot that is the closest to the foster dad.

It takes some time for him to get used to a new environment. Once he is familiar, his personality comes out. He is extremely food driven and would steal food from other dogs’ bowls after his done with his meal. He’s not scared even if the other adult dogs growl at him. Tyton can evaluate if he will get “disciplined” by other dogs and pushes the boundaries. Tyton is part of a litter of 7: Tyton, Tank, Tiger, Lewis, Lu, Sesame, and Tyler. Their mother was not spayed. Chewing*: Still at the puppy stage and have adult teeth growing, would chew on toys

Fear for Adult Men*: Takes time to warm up and play; cautious, would step back and hide when first meet, but would NOT be aggressive like growling

    [post_text_body]

Andrei was traumatized from an early childhood car accident, so he is quite sensitive to traffic on walks. He can be a bit cautious with strangers too but given time will eventually warm up and hop around. Andrie is generally curious and playful. When he meets new pup or kitten friends, Andrei would always reach out, sniff around and invite them to play. Because of this, he often gets soccer punched by the kitties. After the punches, Andrei would respect the kitties’ boundaries and leave them alone.

Andrei is independent enough to stay at home alone. When his people leave the house, he barks to say bye for a bit then rests and entertains himself for the entire day. Andrei potties outdoors currently. Occasionally when he had to stay at home for too long he would have pooping accidents. He does not use pee pads. At times, he uses chewing to express his frustration when he needs to hold in his poop. We are hoping a loving and experienced family can help him get rid of the bad habits.

    [post_text_body]

Kye was born on a school campus with his 8 other siblings. The entire family was homeless until 2 weeks after, a pets shelter received reports and saved them. When first arrived at the shelter, all the babies barely opened their eyes. The mom was soon adopted by a kind local family. Kye and his siblings stayed at the shelter.

However, the shelter does not have all the capacity in the world. They neutered Kye and left him in a park after three months. Kye started his life of following pedestrians around in the parking and begging for food. Even though Kye’s early life was full of difficulties, he remained his friendliness and curiosity for the world. He always approaches and try to be a friend with no matter dogs, cats or people. Fortunately, he met a family while they walk their puppy.  They are impressed by how affectionate he is towards both people and dogs, so they brought him to a rescue and hope to find a home for Kye.

Kye has developed very good living habbits. He knows to go into his crate for meals, and comes out himself after he is done. He also never guard food over people and always waits patiently. Currently, Kye gets taken out for walks twice a day. He would either pee during the walk, use a pee pad or go to the patio. Being a Formosan Mountain Dog, we expect Kye to grow into a medium size, medium to medium-high energy dog that needs good physical and mental stimulation.

Potty: Loves drinking water and needs to go 2-3 times a day. Would potty indoors when in a new environment

    [post_text_body]

Bella was part of a litter of 5. Her mother died from poison when she was out looking for food for the pups. The rescuer couldn’t save the mother in time, but took in the pups.

Bella loves praises and would do anything for them. She might be nervous at the vet. The foster has been putting a cone on Bella so she can only see the foster mom, and the foster mom would praise her lots when the vet examines Bella.

Bella is cat friendly. She lives with 9 cats in Taiwan, and one out of the 9 cats would hang out with Bella and they are friends. The other 8 would walk by and ignore Bella, and Bella would respect them. Bella is a people’s dog. Although she is peaceful with dogs she lives with, she doesn’t invite or engage in play. She alert barks with other dogs but can be stopped. In a new environment, she might be prone to escape before she gets to know the family. Will need to be extra careful in the beginning.

    Cat Friendly*: wants to sniff

Dog Friendly*: Generally very playful, can get into an “argument” if plays too roughly

    [post_text_body]

Rex was rescued on the night of Sep 7 2020. The rescuer went to the temple nearby, and that’s when she saw Rex outside. She took Rex to the animal hospital nearby to do the vetting, before releasing him back to where she found him. Because Rex was so quiet, obedient and pretty, the rescuer decided to rehome him instead of releasing him back to the temple.

Rex is gentle and obedient. He would wait for his food without any prior training. He is a little shy in the beginning and would stay in the corner to observe in a novel environment. Just give him some time and space, he will come to you in no time! Rex does love playing with dogs, but sometimes when the play gets too rough, the adopter will need to separate the pups to allow them to cool down.
