Dove was rescued from Miaoli public shelter, and was adopted when she was around 2 months old. The adopter’s mother would chain her in a cage and put her outside. There was a man that would constantly yell at her and deliberately startle her, so Dove became protective and would bark at other strangers that resembles that particular man. The adopter was not happy with how her mother treated Dove, so she asked the rescuer to find Dove a better home.
In the beginning, Dove was not very confident and was quite timid. After she gets to know the rescuer she becomes affectionate, obedient and food driven. She also has good recall at home. She can potty on grass, and she plays well with other dogs in the dog park. When living in a multi-dog household, she needs to have some distance between other dogs when feeding. Despite being food driven, she does not steal other dogs’ food.

Mayo was abandoned in the rice field when she was a puppy, and subsequently rescued and adopted by a couple. Unexpectedly, the couple was divorced and neither wanted to take Mayo. She was pushed around then ended up in the shelter. Because the previous owners never walked her, Mayo was a little skittish in the beginning. Through the foster’s socializing efforts, Mayo has opened up and would not stiff up when getting petted. She also improved when getting pets by strangers!

[post_text_body]
In the beginning of May this year at 4am, it suddenly started to pour outside. The rescuer opened the window to check on the rain, and that’s when she spotted Penny, just hiding by the neighbour’s garage door. She’s a dog that was part of the TNR program. The rain was so heavy that the rescuer took her in for the night. Seeing how friendly she is, the rescuer decided to rehome Penny.
She’s quiet, people oriented, and calm. She loves it when the rescuer calls her name in a high pitched voice. She runs over with a helicopter tail for pets. She walks very well on leash. She dislikes being petted on the chin, and would turn around and walk away. Sometimes when the rescuer pets her, Penny would have an expression as if she couldn’t believe that she deserves such kindness. Penny is also food driven and loves rolling on the grass!

Lily was abandoned along with two other siblings at the Fisherman’s Wharf. When she was found, what was beside her were the bodies of her siblings. In fear of Lily being run over by cars like her other siblings, the rescuer scooped her up and fostered her. Lily is very friendly towards people and dogs, but is sensitive with loud noises. When hearing loud cars or loud noises on the street, she might stop and refuse to walk. When she freezes, it is important to not pull her, but to calm her down and encourage her to walk on. Lily loves to play with dogs and can be a little shy at first when meeting people. With some encouragement and treats, she opens up quickly. She potties outside mostly, but sometimes poops at home.

Nov 16 2019 the rescuer got a call for her sister, saying that there’s a malnourished dog passing out in front of the neighbour’s house, lying in pee and poop, with foam in the mouth. The rescuer thinks the dog was poisoned and told the sister to send the dog to emergency. After chatting with the neighbour, the neighbour casually said the dog was there for a day already and they were going to put him in a garbage bag and tossing him away. At the vet hospital, the dog’s blood panel was a mess. The vet told the rescuer not to be too sad if the dog doesn’t make it. Miraculously, he got better! Even the vet called it a miracle, so we named him Miraca! Miraca is shy and would try to hide under a table or in a crate when he’s unsure in a new environment. He is obedient, quiet, chill, and easy to walk. He is dog and cat friendly!

Ranger was found dumped by the river park. The tourists saw Ranger by himself, trying to play with everyone. When it was at the end of the day, Ranger tried to leave with some of the tourists but was disappointed that no one was going to take him home. A passing by student saw this, and decided to take him home. Unfortunately, the student’s parents do not allow dogs at home, and he would only hide him. He knows it is a matter of time before his parents find out, so he made a post on social media asking for help, and that’s when the rescuer took over and placed him in fosters. Ranger is a happy go lucky and affectionate boy! He was so in Taiwan and still is here in Canada! In his Vancouver foster, he sleeps through the night with the little girl, and is doing very well with the resident dog and kitty! Although Ranger is generally friendly with cats, he sometimes forget the feline friends are not puppies! We will recommend supervision in the beginning when they interact.
