Nov 16 2019 the rescuer got a call for her sister, saying that there’s a malnourished dog passing out in front of the neighbour’s house, lying in pee and poop, with foam in the mouth. The rescuer thinks the dog was poisoned and told the sister to send the dog to emergency. After chatting with the neighbour, the neighbour casually said the dog was there for a day already and they were going to put him in a garbage bag and tossing him away. At the vet hospital, the dog’s blood panel was a mess. The vet told the rescuer not to be too sad if the dog doesn’t make it. Miraculously, he got better! Even the vet called it a miracle, so we named him Miraca! Miraca is shy and would try to hide under a table or in a crate when he’s unsure in a new environment. He is obedient, quiet, chill, and easy to walk. He is dog and cat friendly!

    [post_text_body]

Ranger was found dumped by the river park. The tourists saw Ranger by himself, trying to play with everyone. When it was at the end of the day, Ranger tried to leave with some of the tourists but was disappointed that no one was going to take him home. A passing by student saw this, and decided to take him home. Unfortunately, the student’s parents do not allow dogs at home, and he would only hide him. He knows it is a matter of time before his parents find out, so he made a post on social media asking for help, and that’s when the rescuer took over and placed him in fosters. Ranger is a happy go lucky and affectionate boy! He was so in Taiwan and still is here in Canada! In his Vancouver foster, he sleeps through the night with the little girl, and is doing very well with the resident dog and kitty! Although Ranger is generally friendly with cats, he sometimes forget the feline friends are not puppies! We will recommend supervision in the beginning when they interact.

Cat Friendly: Won’t chase or attack

Kid Friendly and reaction to Men: Won’t reject unfamiliar men or children

Rupert was taken to a vet hospital to be neutered at 2 months old. The vet thought that was too young, and while waiting for him to grow older a kind woman inquired about him, and upon learning that he had been found as a stray at a local market, and that the venders at the market were mean toward him, she decided to take him in and foster him. He has since been living in a household with other dogs and a man and woman, and gets along great with them all.

Rupert seems to have been born with no fears, he is not afraid to play with bigger dogs and he is very quick to want to play, even taking the initiative to play with strangers, which is uncommon for strays with his background.

Being a Formosan Mountain dog cross, he will grow to a medium size dog around 15-20kg and of a border collie size. Due to the intelligent, sensitive, and active nature of the breed, Rupert will do best in a family that has a medium to high energy life style.

Rozza, Romma, Renna and Reppo were found dumped at the remote graveyard without their mother when they were around 1.5 months old. They clung close to each other hoping to get more warmth to survive. Luckily the rescuers spotted them earlier on and brought them in. Romma and Rozza were diagnosed with Parvo. Fortunately this was caught early and they recovered very soon!

Because the litter was handled by people earlier on in their life stage, they are not skittish. Rozza is the very friendly and extremely affectionate toward people. She is very food driven and will listen any of your commands when there’s food. All puppies play very well together and they will only hide if a very large dog approaches them.

Being a Formosan Mountain dog cross, they will grow to a medium size dog around 20kg and of a border collie size. Due to the intelligent, sensitive, and active nature of the breed, Rozza will do best in a family that has a medium to high energy life style.

Kid Friendly: Very gentle with children, but the children will need to understand and respect her boundaries

Level of Independence*: Can be extremely cuddly if you want her to, but she can also handle herself when being alone.

Dog Friendly*: Playful and curious. Dislikes pushy dogs at her face. Will growl to warn and leave.

Cat Friendly: Does not care for cats, but will tolerate them. Might chase if other dogs in the home chase the cat.

    Barking: barely barks

Fear for Adult Men: Prefers women but is okay being petted by male strangers. Once she learns the man is family she becomes loving and cuddly.

    [post_text_body]

Felicia was a stray, and the rescuers in the area found that she was in heat. They prepared the food and traps to catch her, but Felicia came willingly gulping down the food. After scanning for chips, the rescuers found her previous owners, who didn’t care for her. The people came to the shelter and formally “abandoned her.” Seeing how  loving and affectionate Felicia is, the foster took her in, and prepare her for adoption.

Felicia might have been crated for a long periods of time so she could be resistant with crates. That being said, she was quiet and patient at the airport in the crate! The foster found that if she accidentally pulled out of the harness, she would run further if being chased. Her recall is good if there’s food present. She also responds to her name. Felicia was probably abused and hit at the previous family, so she might dart when a stranger moves too quickly or displaying unfamiliar behaviours towards her.

She can be bathed but she’s not a big fan of it. She might growl to communicate but is never aggressive. Like most Formosan Mountain Dogs, she is a sassy character. A treat based training method will aide her obedience but a communicative approach will be the key to successful bonding.

Both Purdy and Maxim are Formosan Cross small breed terrier (mother). The small breed terrier was kept in a cage for all 10 years of her life. The only time that she was tether out, she was in heat, and got pregnant at 10 years old. The rescuer could only recover Maxim and Purdy and the owner of the mother dog has given other puppies away.

The sisters are both affectionate and full of energy! Maxim is a beautiful medium hair girl! At the age of 4 months, they are barely at 4 kg. Both are extremely food driven. Due to the size of their mother, we think they will be at most a small medium size dog, if not smaller.

Kid Friendly: Will get too excited and jump up. Not recommended for small children.

Level of Independence*: Loves cuddling but no separation anxiety. She can also just sit beside her human and just hang out.

Dog Friendly*: Generally friendly and prefers human. Can have dominance behaviours such as growling and nipping in the beginning when sharing space with another dog. Needs a very assertive human leader if to have two dogs at home.

    Cat Friendly: Not cat friendly.

    [post_text_body]

In the shelter since 2016. The rescuer subsequently took her out in 2019. She’s very cuddly and affectionate but can also hang out quietly beside her human. She is very people friendly and sometimes gets too excited when meeting little children. She loves her walks and exercises, and she will need to lose some weight to be healthy. In the foster’s home, there’s a man and a woman, and approximately 38 other dogs, small and medium sized.

Hope just arrived in Vancouver! She’s extremely affectionate and is not afraid of men at all. She generally walks well on a leash except some occasional stubbornness. When playing with other dogs, Hope is a little socially awkward. She does a very rough dominance play with other dogs and may need to be supervised at first.
